Treating phobias the human givens way

Phobias, or fears, can ruin your quality of life if left unresolved. Common phobias might be a fear of spiders, or being in a large crowd, driving on a motorway or flying.

Suffering from a phobia is more common than you might think, with 11% of us experiencing it at one time or another, and it’s more likely to affect women than men.

As well as a feeling of terror or panic, phobias can cause:

  • Uncontrollable, irrational and persistent fear
  • Sweating
  • Muscle tension
  • Heart palpitations
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea

In extreme cases, a phobia is so bad it can spark a serious panic attack. The individual might get to the unfortunate stage where he or she no longer wants to go outside.

The good news is that in the great majority of cases, with human givens therapy the phobia, which may have been caused by some form of trauma or “learnt” from a parent, will be overcome in a short space of time.

Even with the most complex of phobias, there is a high chance of achieving a full recovery.

Overcoming fear and phobias

As a human givens therapist, I’m qualified in various techniques that will help you overcome your fear or phobia.

Treatment might involve “de-traumatising” a particular experience that has triggered the phobia, together with a combination of relaxation, behavioural and cognitive therapy.

The beauty of human givens psychotherapy is that, as well as being effective, treatment can be quick.

Got a phobia you’d like to beat?

The first and most important step is to recognise that you can beat phobias with the human givens approach. Having done that, please contact Deborah Potts Counselling today, and look forward to a new life free of fear.
